Minimum Time for Pregnancy

Once in 29 Hijri, Hazrat Usman (R.A.) went for Hajj with other companions.

When a case of a woman from the tribe of Jahnia came to him. This woman was a widow, then she married and after marriage she gave birth to a baby boy in only six months.

Hazrat Usman (R.A.) punished her as he thought that she has given birth to an illegal child. On listening to this punishment, Hazrat Ali (R.A.) came to him and tell him that ALLAH has mentioned in Holy Qur’an:

"His mother bore him with difficulty and with difficulty gave birth to him; and his bearing and weaning take thirty months."
(Surah Al-Ahqaf (Winding Sand Tracts),  Surah # 46: Ayah # 15)

This shows that the total period for the pregnancy and nursing a child is 30 months.
Then he told him that ALLAH has mentioned at another place:

"Mothers should nurse their children for two full Years-"
(SurahAl-Baqarah (The Heifer),  Surah # 2: Ayah # 233)

Which means 24 months of nursing.
Now by removing 30 months from 24 months, we will get 6 months. Which shows the (minimum) time for the staying of pregnancy.
So, that woman was not certainly guilty. Hazrat Usman (R.A.) felt that he may have wrongly punished the woman. He cancelled the punishment but the woman was already punished unto that time.
